L-Theanine is a unique amino acid, it is present almost exclusively in the Camelia Sinensis tea plant.

The tea is the second most consumed beverage in the world; Green tea contains a large amount of theanine and other polyphenols. It is easily absorbed in the intestine and crosses the blood-brain (H-E) barrier, making it useful as a neurotransmitter in stress and anxiety.

Theanine is the only neurotransmitter with double or triple action. It raises the amount of gamma amino butyric acid (GABA) which is balancing, tranquilizing, sedative. Elevates brain dopamine, which improves the mood.

It also betters after half an hour the brain´s alpha waves that generate mental relaxation, without sedation or drowsiness. It is useful to protect normal cells in chemotherapy treatments, it is an antioxidant, and inhibits the oxidation of light LDL (bad) cholesterol.

It counteracts the stimulating effects of caffeine, such as tachycardia or eye spasms. A spasm in the eyes due to excess caffeine can be counteracted by taking theanine and, of course, decreasing caffeine intake.
